Modern museums as the future of historical tourism

The Sybir Memorial Museum made its mark on the 6th European Self-Government Congress. The director of the museum took part in a panel discussing discovering the future and modern tourism.

Representatives of the local government, business and culture attended the Congress in Mikołajki. The invitation was also received by the director of the Sybir Memorial Museum, Wojciech Śleszyński, PhD.

On December 6, 7 as part of the discussion panels and plenary sessions topics such as: regional cooperation, sustainability, the future of the self-government or the challenges facing the tourist trade weakened by the pandemic were discussed.

Wojciech Śleszyński, PhD, shared with panelists and listeners the experience of creating a modern museum. He presented the opinions on developing the regional and national tourism from the point of view of a big museum institution, which becomes the leader in its field.

— Both small and big museums such as the Sybir Memorial Museum are a chance for tourism —  said the scientist. — They are the answer to the growing interest of the past, proposing modern forms of medium. They become important points on the map of its cities, they catch tourists’ attention.

— The Sybir Memorial Museum is an example that there are people ready to come from distant parts of the country to see this one of a kind institution — added Śleszyński, PhD.
