December events at the Sybir Memorial Museum

The Sybir Memorial Museum has prepared an interesting events programme for the last month of 2022.

On Thursday, December 1 at 7:00 p.m in the multimedia room of the museum, another meeting as part of our “travel” series, in which writers, photographers, journalists talk about expeditions to the areas, that are associated with the history presented in the Sybir Memorial Museum, will be held. This time, our guest will be Jędrzej Łukowski, experienced traveler and organizer of expeditions. He will tell us about Kolyma, Magadan and Yakutsk during the meeting entitled: “Journey to the end of the world”.

Tickets to the event have been sold out already. We encourage you to follow our social media and website, where we will post the report form the meeting.

On Tuesday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m we will present the December “Exhibit of the Month”. This time it will be the Jocz family’s mementoes. Free admission!

On Thursday, December 15, at 2.00 p.m, we invite you to a meeting with Wojciech Marciniak, PhD, head of the Siberian Archives at the Institute of History at the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Lodz. The conversation will concern the monograph „Odzyskać nadzieję, wrócić do Ojczyzny. Związek Patriotów Polskich w Południowym Kazachstanie 1944-1946” (“Regaining Hope, Returning to Homeland. Union of Polish Patriots in South Kazakhstan 1944-1946”), published by the Sybir Memorial Museum and the University of Lodz Publishing House. The publication was nominated for this year’s Kazimierz Moczarski Historical Award of the capital city of Warsaw. Free entrance!

On Friday, December 16, at 5:00 p.m, another event of the “Siberian Spirit” series will take place, this time under the title “Philosophy in the Inhuman Land: Humanism Against Evil”. Our guest will be professor Tadeusz Gadacz, philosopher, head of the Department of Philosophy at Collegium Civitas, chairman of the Committee on Philosophical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Polish Ethical Society. His last book, which is still being prepared for release, is entitled „O dobromyślności. Kondycja człowieka po Auschwitz i Kołymie” (“On Benevolence. Human condition after Auschwitz and Kolyma”). Free admission!

The Sybir Memorial Museum will be open until December 23, inclusive. From December 24 to January 1, the Museum will be closed due to technical break.
