A family picture of Zofia and Jan Gaciński’s wedding

Zofia was born in Zamosc in 1902 in the family of Ludwik and Adela Lipscy. The family moved to Bialystok, when their father got a job as a civil servant. In 1924 Zofia graduated from the gymnasium of the duchess Anna Jabłonowska. Later, she studied in Warsaw at the Faculty of Humanities, where she graduated in 1930. She worked at schools in Bialystok and during the war she conducted secret education.

In the 30s she married Jan Gaciński, a local teacher. In 1944 she was arrested. She got to the labor camp in Ostaszkow, where she stayed until January 16, 1946.
