COMMEMORATING THE VICTIMS OF REPRESSION

The Sybir Memorial Run, organised for seven years by the Sybir Memorial Museum and the Białystok Biega Foundation, combines amateur sports with the commemoration of victims of centuries-long Russian, and later Soviet, repression against citizens of the Republic of Poland.

The event always takes place in February to mark the first mass deportation carried out on 10 February 1940 in the eastern territories of the Second Polish Republic occupied by the Soviets.

DIFFERENT FORMULAS

The Sybir Memorial Run is a forest run held after dusk. The event takes place in Białystok, with an additional edition in Wrocław. Those who cannot take part in person may join virtually.

Each year, the routes in both Białystok and Wrocław are enhanced with historical reenactments and artistic installations, making participation a unique experience.

The virtual challenge lasts for about a month and is open to anyone, anywhere in the world — all you need to do is register and complete at least one 5 km run.

Participants in both the in-person and virtual editions receive runner’s packs and commemorative medals, which are redesigned each year. Since 2022, the medals of the Sybir Memorial Run have featured exhibits from the Sybir Memorial Museum.

The run is open not only to athletes, but also to those interested in history, and to anyone wishing to dedicate their participation — for example — to a family member who was a Sybirak.
