On Saturday, March 9, at 10:45 a.m., we invite you to a curator guided tour of the temporary exhibition entitled ‘Only Pain is Mine’ (“Tylko ból jest mój”). Katarzyna Śliwowska, one of the originators and curators of the exhibition, will talk about the exhibition and its message. Admission is free — tickets are available at the ticket office.
On Sunday, March 10, at 9:45 a.m., our guide will show you around the permanent exhibition following the path entitled ‘Women in Siberia’ (“Kobiety na Sybirze”) prepared for the occasion.
Women accompanied their partners on their way to exile and hard labor already in the 19th century. They shared the same misery. Women also participated in national uprisings and supported the fight for regaining independence, for which they were also sent to Siberia.
The change in Russia’s political system resulted in repression at unprecedented scale. The criminal communist system meant that for many women, staying in Siberia meant not only forced hard labor for less than a modest stipend. Siberia meant, above all, misery, the procuring of food every day, hard work, but also being robbed of their femininity and fighting to preserve dignity and humanity.
Women — mothers had to take care not only of the basic needs of their children. They also had to pay attention to maintaining their national identity.
The commemorative tour on March 8, 2024 aims to show the fate of women who ended up in Siberia in the 20th century as deportees, resettles and labor camp prisoners, on the basis of selected issues of their accounts.
Tickets for this special tour — for the price of 35 PLN and 30 PLN — can be bought at the ticket office or online on the website sklep.sybir.bialystok.pl.
Additionally, throughout the weekend from Friday, March 8 to Sunday, March 10, all the ladies who buy their ticket to the exhibition will be able to rent an audio guide for free.
In turn, in our museum store, women will be given a discount of 20% on the publications published by the Sybir Memorial Museum.
