On Saturday, July 1 from 9:30 a.m. at the Sybir Memorial Museum, Paweł Piechnik will lead a three-hour workshop inspired by the two-volume comic book “Sybir. My Story. Based on Danuta Pietrzak’s reports.”.

In the first part of the course, Paweł Piechnik will explain how to prepare a comic book script, where we can get the inspiration from, and what the production process of such a publication looks like. In the practical part, everyone will be able to try to draw an alternative story of teenage Danuta, the heroine of “Sybir. My Story…” — what would have happened if she had not been deported?
The comic book by Paweł Piechnik, published by the Sybir Memorial Museum, is based on the reports of Danuta Pietrzak, a Siberian girl, who, as a 15-year-old girl, was deported by the Soviets in April 1940 with her mother and brother to Kazakhstan.

How did her fate go? Was it easy to survive on the steppes of Kazakhstan.? Did she manage to meet Gienek, whom she met playing truant in pre-war Białystok? How did she manage to return to Poland?
We encourage everyone to read the comic book (you can buy it in our stationary and online store) — and to participate in unique workshops!
