Survival: victory or defeat? We would like to invite you to another meeting of the ‘Siberian Spirit’ series organized as part of the Museum Laboratory of Border Experiences.

This time professor Krzysztof Czyżewski’s guest will be Oksana Kis, PhD, from Lviv, who is the head of the Department of Sciences of Anthropology and Ethnology at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the author of the book entitled ‘Survival as Victory: Ukrainian Women in the Gulag’. The conversation will revolve around the problem of survival in Gulag and guiltiness very often associated with it.

Should we look for heroism only in the sacrifice of life or maybe also in saving it? What is the female perspective on this issue? What ethical and social conditions for this problem exist inside and outside the camp life, including also the life after returning home?
