The guest of the final author talk before the summer break will be María Teresa Dittler, author of From Dawn to Dusk: Polish Immigrants in Patagonia and Red Poppies: Postwar Polish Immigrants.

In her books, María Teresa Dittler explores the lives and testimonies of dozens of Poles who, after being deported to Siberia by the Soviet Union, were forced to emigrate once again after the end of World War II—this time to Argentina. She creates vivid and moving portraits of people whose lives, after surviving the hardships of Siberia, took unexpected and often remarkable turns.

During the meeting, participants will learn, among other stories, about Tadeusz Bortnowski, who was deported in 1941. After surviving arduous transports, the harsh Siberian climate, hunger, and disease, he became a cinematographer documenting key battles of World War II. After the war, he went on to become one of the leading figures in Argentine cultural television. During his career, he even had the opportunity to collaborate on a film project with the renowned Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges.

The meeting will be interpreted into Polish.
