May events at the Sybir Memorial Museum

Amateurs of cultural life may associate May with that one unique night — Long Night of Museums. But it’s just one of the propositions prepared for that month by the Sybir Memorial Museum.

May means also celebrating the victory of Monte Cassino. Nevertheless, it needs to be remembered, that not only soldiers, but also thousands of civilians — women, children and people unable to join the army were evacuated with Anders’ Army.  We’ll remember that in our May episode of the “Exhibit of the Month”. On May 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. we’ll present the mementos of the Wojtasiewicz family — Renata Halina Iwanowska  and her parents Kazimiera and Jan, who thanks to the “amnesty” of 1941 could leave the USSR — will be the characters of the story.

On May 11 at 6.00 p.m there will be another meeting in the series hosting travelers and creators: writers, journalists, photographers and filmmakers. This time Zofia Piłasiewicz, the author of the book “Siberian Dream. A Roadless Tale.”

The traveler will talk about her trips on the Trans-Siberian Railway, walking through the taiga and canoeing trips. Zofia Piłasiewicz flowed down the rivers of the Republic of Tuva — Yenisei, Chamsara and Ulug-O.

Tickets (10 and 15 PLN) can be booked by telephone or e-mail (+48 85 672 36 00, e-mail: bilety@sybir.bialystok.pl) as well as on the website of the Sybir Memorial Museum: bilety.sybir.bialystok.pl

On May 13, we invite you to the Long Night of Museums. From 4.00 p.m, reenactment groups will be presenting themselves in the vicinity of the Sybir Memorial Museum. In connection with the 160th anniversary of the January Uprising falling in 2023, they will present the participants of that uprising. Also from 4 p.m, museum educators will be waiting in two tents in front of the Museum with educational workshops for children. There will be an opportunity to try out virtual reality (VR) goggles.

Visiting the permanent exhibition for all interested will last from 6.00 p.m to midnight. The topic of the January Uprising will also be referred to by the animation presented on the facade of the Museum from the side of Poleska Street from 8:00 p.m to 1:00 a.m. Free entrance.

May is also Mother’s Day. This year, the Sybir Memorial Museum prepared a unique proposition. Museologists from Węglowa Street choose, from the collection, some photographs relating to maternity and presenting Siberian mothers.

Publication “Mother. Catalogue of the Photography Collection of the Sybir Memorial Museum” will be presented on May 25, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. Purchasing the album will be possible during the meeting. Free admittance.
