The fate of Sybiraks, their challenging experiences, and the suffering they had to face each day encourage reflection on the limits of human ability. Where the boundary of strength, will to survive, or humanity appear, there also exists the boundlessness of hope and faith.
The exhibition “Boundlessness in Sybir” presents the theme of deportations to Siberia through the lens of contemporary art and philosophical reflection. The overriding idea of the exhibition is to create a space where artists can contemplate the concepts of boundlessness and boundary and express using different artistic techniques. The exhibition addresses the significance of both physical and symbolic boundaries.
A crucial element for preparing the exhibition ‘Boundlessness in Sybir’ involved face-to-face meetings between artists and Sybiraks, who shared their personal experiences. They talked about how they understand the concept of boundlessness, relating it to their own experiences. As a result, the works displayed at the exhibition are not only expressions of artistic creativity but also profound reflections on human experience and resilience. The heart of this project lies in the voices and the stories of the Sybiraks, which give it authenticity and emotional depth. The exhibition “Boundlessness in Sybir” is another action taken by the Sybir Memorial Museum, which will contribute to commemorating the fate of people exiled to Siberia and passing on their stories to future generations.
While preparing this exhibition, the Sybir Memorial Museum collaborated with the Institute of Arts at the Faculty of Architecture, Bialystok University of Technology. The art curator is Kamil Kopania, and the substantive curator is Ewelina Kamieńska.
The exhibition is open until June 29th, 2025.
