Volunteering Coordinator, Agnieszka Glińska, talks about volunteering at the Sybir Memorial Museum.

The Sybir Memorial Museum announces a recruitment of volunteers. What tasks will they be able to solve within the framework of cooperation with the Museum?

Agnieszka Glińska, volunteer coordinator at the Sybir Memorial Museum: We need volunteers to work at cultural events such as the Long Night of Museums or at sporting events – such as the Sybir Memorial Run and the memory cycling Peloton – this is the event-specific part of volunteering. We are also looking for a person who will help us organize public holidays and events with the participation of Sybiraks.

What actions will volunteers take in such situations?

During the events, volunteers will be involved in organizational issues, for example, during the Sybir Memorial Run, this would be packaging and distribution of packages, as well as technical support at the preparation points and on the race route itself.

What can we offer to people interested in supporting the museum in its daily activities?

We are looking for people willing to help with inventory of collections, recording and indexing records of stories of Sybiraks. We are interested in people who want to work in this field, as well as those who are interested in history and want to expand their knowledge.

Is remote collaboration possible?

Certainly! You can work remotely with Siberian memoirs, perform translations and various editorial tasks.

Are candidates required to have any previous experience?

No experience required. We’ll teach you everything on the spot. We provide various types of training and courses, for example on working with memories or processing collections.

Who can become a volunteer?

We are looking for people 16 years of age and older. There is no upper limit. If anyone wants and has time for cooperation, please contact us!

What will the hiring process look like?

If someone wants to become our volunteer, they should fill out the recruitment form on the website of the Sybir Memorial Museum and wait for a message from us with an invitation to an interview. After the interview, we send information about the selection result and sign the corresponding agreement. Then you can start working.

Does cooperation with the Sybir Memorial Museum require a lot of time?

We have no set minimum or weekly time limit. We will be grateful for any number of hours that someone is willing to devote to us.

First we offer a trial period of 3 months. We want the person who comes to us to see whether this place suits him and whether he feels good here.

What will volunteers receive in exchange for their work?

At each stage, the volunteer receives support and care from us, as well as a large dose of knowledge. Volunteering provides an opportunity to learn about museum work and culture from the inside. We, of course, provide insurance.

You will also be able to visit the permanent exhibition for free and take part in our ticketed events. We also want to integrate our volunteer community internally, for this we will organize integration meetings.

At the end of cooperation, we will provide each volunteer with a certificate with the number of hours worked and recommendations.
