“The Past Through the Eyes of the Present. Białystok ’39” – outdoor exhibition
The exhibition, consisting of nine panels, invites visitors to take a walk through the history of the city. Each panel presents the outlines of a building or structure that existed before the Second World War, allowing visitors to compare its historical appearance with the present-day site. The walk can begin at any panel, as each one presents a different location and the events associated with it.
Locations: in front of the Dramatic Theatre; in the courtyard of the Branicki Palace; Kościuszko Market Square; at the corner of Lipowa and Malmeda Streets; in front of St. Roch’s Church; on Mickiewicz Street in front of the Alfa shopping centre; and on Branicki Square near the Władysław Bartoszewski Bridge.

Lecture by Dave Lowe – Nobel laureate and prominent climatologist from New Zealand
We invite you to a meeting with Dave Lowe, who will deliver a lecture entitled A Damaged Earth but Not a Broken One. A Case for Guarded Optimism with No Room for Complacency / Ziemia – planeta okaleczona, ale nie zniszczona. Jest nadzieja, ale nie ma czasu na bezczynność. In his lecture, he will discuss climate change occurring on Earth, with particular emphasis on the situation in Siberia.
Simultaneous interpretation into Polish will be provided.

The event is co-organised by the Faculty of Biology and the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Białystok, under the patronage of the Ambassador of New Zealand to Poland.

“History That Must Not Be Forgotten”
A special guided tour of the permanent exhibition featuring Sybiraks. The tour has been prepared in connection with the World Day of the Sybiraks, observed on 17 September.
During the tour, participants will meet Sybiraks who will share their personal memories of deportation and life in exile. This is a rare and deeply moving opportunity to hear these stories first-hand – not only through documents and exhibits, but also through the testimonies of people who experienced deportation and life in exile themselves.
