“Only Pain is Mine” is an exhibition that tells the story of women’s experiences in Siberia, their daily hardships and emotions. It consists of paintings on canvas created by artist Edyta Urwanowicz on the basis of testimonies of women deported to Siberia.
The exhibition aims to stimulate reflection on the questions: What did it mean to be a woman in Siberia? What difficulties did women who found themselves in extreme situations face? What experiences connect them with the victims of contemporary conflicts? Its curators – Karolina Mosiej-Zambrano, Katarzyna Śliwowska and Magdalena Zięckowska-Tuchlińska – sought to show the universality of the fate of women in Siberia; therefore, the exhibition also includes accounts from other areas affected by armed conflicts.
Visitors will be guided through the exhibition by Katarzyna Śliwowska. She will be accompanied by one of the ambassadors, Janina Rutkowska.
