The new apurchase in the collection of the Sybir Memorial Museum is Ala’s diary, and this quoted entry comes from it. The new object hides some mysteries that may one day be solved. We only know the name of the diary’s owner, because only the first name appears in the entries. Ala received this diary in Akmolinsk, as evidenced by her entry on the inner side of the back cover: “This diary is from Russia, I received it in Akmolinsk on February 27, 1946, in Akmolinsk”.

The diary contains 23 commemorative entries. Some were made in Akmolinsk, while others were written during the journey to Poland in carriages number 51 and 52. The last entry, dated May 22, 1946, was written in Warsaw. The entries were made with pencil and ink, enriched with pencil drawings, and a few pages have advertising labels pasted on them.

Some of the entries were made by Ala’s friends of Jewish origin, including Raszka Lewinówna, Zela Kapłan, and Renia Afeldówna. This reminds us of a crucial aspect related mainly to the third mass deportation carried out in June 1940, which primarily affected all refugees (bieżeńcy) fleeing German occupation, two-thirds of whom were Jews.
