During the third edition of the event, participants will experience a unique blend of sounds inspired by the Siberian winter and the harsh climatic conditions of the region.

The musical setting will be complemented by multimedia elements, allowing the audience to immerse themselves more deeply in the stories of those deported to Siberia.

The evening will open with a performance by Aksamit – a DJ, producer, promoter and sound enthusiast known for her ability to build narrative and emotional depth in her sets. She creates a space in which music becomes an experience for both the body and the mind. She will be followed by Dtekk (Jędrzej Dondziło) – a DJ and promoter from Białystok, cultural activist and programme director of the Electrum Up To Date Festival. In his artistic philosophy, balancing the authentic search for the deepest forms of expression with sharing a love of music with others plays a key role.

The Siberian Ambient Salon is a unique event accompanying the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the first mass deportation of Polish citizens to the East. Through music and shared experience, we wish to pay tribute to the Sybiraks, recalling their fate and the strength of their spirit.

ABOUT THE IDEA

The “Ambient Salon” series originated in Białystok as part of the activities of the Up To Date Festival and the Technosoul collective. So far, dozens of editions have been held in many Polish cities. By organising Ambient Salons, we promote genres such as ambient, modern classical, IDM and noise. The highlight of the year is the Central Ambient Salon, held as part of the Up To Date Festival, which this year will take place from 30 May to 2 June in Białystok.

The Siberian Ambient Salon is a series initiated in 2022 by the Sybir Memorial Museum in cooperation with the Up To Date Festival, as part of the wider “Ambient Salon” project. The aim of this unique event within a museum space is to present themes explored in the Museum’s exhibitions in a contemporary and engaging way.

The Siberian Ambient Salon is also a tribute to Węglowa Street and the recent history of Białystok. The Sybir Memorial Museum was established on Węglowa Street, and it was in this area that the first editions of the Up To Date Festival were held.

ABOUT THE VENUE

The Sybir Memorial Museum is dedicated to those who, from the late 16th century until the mid-20th century, were enslaved and exiled deep into Russia and later the Soviet Union, as well as to those who went there voluntarily. We tell the stories of prisoners of war, convicts, exiles and deportees. We also present the stories of those who, before the First World War, explored Siberia and contributed to the development of its vast territories. We combine academic research and historical narratives with the memories of participants and witnesses. Through seemingly ordinary objects filled with deep emotion, we transport visitors to an extraordinary land – mysterious and beautiful, yet harsh and unforgiving: Sybir.
