Publications – Sharing Knowledge

As part of its mission to disseminate historical knowledge, the Sybir Memorial Museum has published more than 70 publications. Among them is the five-volume “Sybir” series, which presents the full scope of the history explored by the Museum in an accessible yet thoroughly researched manner—from exile under the Russian Empire to Stalinist repressions.

The “Little Histories of Sybir” series includes bilingual, most often Polish-English, accessible history publications that allow readers around the world to become familiar with the subjects addressed by the Museum. Particularly important and moving are the testimonies of witnesses to history, published in the “Memories and Accounts” series.

Many other publishing series, as well as individual publications—from scholarly books to comics and audiobooks—are available in the Museum’s physical and online shop at www.sklep-sybir.pl.

An important element of the Sybir Memorial Museum’s educational and outreach activities are the online platforms developed and managed by the institution, as well as the journals it publishes. In cooperation with the Juliusz Mieroszewski Centre for Dialogue and Cooperation, the Museum is developing the international historical portal “The World of Sybir”, which features articles, photo essays, podcasts, films, and archival materials. Dozens of authors from around the world have contributed to the portal, including renowned figures such as Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Applebaum and Jan Raczynski, Chair of the Moscow-based Memorial organisation, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Thanks to its bilingual format—in Polish and English—the portal is also popular among audiences outside Poland. Approximately 40% of its users access it from abroad. Testimonies collected by the Museum are presented on a dedicated website, “Testimonies from Sybir”. These accounts have been gathered in various languages, including Polish, English, Russian, and Spanish.

The Museum also publishes journals: “Zesłaniec” (in cooperation with the Association of Sybiraks) and “Borderland History Bulletin” (in cooperation with the Polish Historical Society). Further publications are currently in preparation, developed both independently by the Sybir Memorial Museum and in cooperation with Polish and international partners.
