The Family Oral Archives: Siberia – Memory – Identity workshops are part of the Intergenerational Memory of Siberia programme, launched at the Sybir Memorial Museum on 26 June 2025 – the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. This long-term programme of cooperation with Sybiraks and their families aims to strengthen intergenerational bonds and build a local community around the memory of deportations. One of the activities within the programme is a series of oral history workshops.

Family Oral Archives: Siberia – Memory – Identity

Date: 21 November (Friday), 3:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
Workshop leaders: Marcin Jarząbek, PhD and Mariusz Bieciuk (Polish Oral History Association)
Price: 25 PLN per person

During the workshops, participants will learn the fundamentals of working with oral history — from preparing and conducting a biographical interview to creating and archiving family recordings. The workshop leaders will discuss how to talk to loved ones about difficult memories, how to formulate thoughtful and sensitive questions, and how to use recording equipment effectively. Participants will also learn how to catalogue and describe recordings in order to create a well-organised home archive of memory.

The workshops will be conducted in the form of dialogue and exchange of experiences, offering participants the opportunity to explore how personal and family memory can become part of a broader historical narrative.

The workshops are intended for descendants of Sybiraks, as well as anyone interested in exploring the history of their own family and local community.
