February 10 We Remember – Events Commemorating the 85th Anniversary of the First Mass Deportation

Special tour related to the anniversary of the first mass deportation on February 10, 1940. The guide will tell the story of people thrown by fate into distant and unknown territories of Russia and later the Soviet Union. The guide will bring closer the dramatic stories of deportees, their daily lives and struggle for survival. Visitors will have the opportunity to hear stories about seemingly ordinary objects that conceal extraordinary histories of their owners.

A special exhibition of artifacts related to the fate of Sybiraks who are honored through the initiative I Run for a Sybirak.

This initiative allows runners to dedicate their race to a Sybirak by placing his/her name on the race bib.

The Sybir Memorial Run, organized for the past seven years by the Sybir Memorial Museum and the Białystok Biega Foundation, is an initiative combining amateur sports and the commemoration of the victims of Russian and then Soviet repression of Polish citizens that lasted for a couple of centuries.

The event is always held in February to remember the first mass deportation carried out on February 10, 1940 in the Soviet-occupied eastern territories of the former Second Republic.

Curator guided tour of the exhibition ”Boundlessness in Sybir” will introduce visitors to the topic of Siberian exile through the lens of contemporary art. Ewelina Kamieńska, curator of the exhibition will discuss the concept of the exhibition, the displayed works, and the stories of Sybiraks that inspired the exhibition. She will also highlight the significance of the anniversary of the first mass deportation on February 10, 1940.

During the third edition of the event, held at the Sybir Memorial Museum, attendees will have the opportunity to experience a unique blend of sounds inspired by the Siberian winter and the harsh climatic conditions of the region. The musical backdrop will be enriched by multimedia, allowing participants to delve even deeper into the fate of those deported to Siberia.

Aksamit / Velvet Vortex will perform in the audiovisual space of the Sybir Memorial Museum. The artist will be accompanied by Dtekk, the creator of the “Ambient Salon” series, who will conclude the evening musically.

The Sybir Memorial Run is a run in forest that takes place after dark. The event is organised in Białystok, but it also has its own edition in Wrocław. Each time, the route of both the Białystok and Wrocław runs is enriched with historical reconstructions and artistic installations, thanks to which participation in the event leaves a unique impression.
