We invite you to the performance by an outstanding artist, Janusz Bałdyga, which can be seen during the opening of the temporary exhibition “Boundlessness in Sybir”.

Janusz Bałdyga’s performance, which will be presented during the opening, refers to the painful family history of the artist. This story begins in the 80s of the 19th century when Bałdyga’s mother’s family was exiled to Siberia as repressed Polish Uniates. It was there, in Chelyabinsk, his mother was born, and the family’s dramatic return to Poland lasted from 1924 to 1957.

The event will take place on December 6th, 2024, after 6:00 p.m.

Janusz Bałdyga (born in 1954 in Lublin); In the years 1974-79 studied in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He obtained a diploma in the studio of prof Stefan Gierowski in 1979. Member and co-founder of the artistic group ‘Pracownia’ (1976-81), co-leader of the studio at the Dziekanka Students’ Art Center (1976-79) in Warsaw. Since 1979 he has been a member of the Akademia Ruchu theatre. Currently, Janusz Bałdyga is a professor of performance art at the University of Arts in Poznan at the Faculty of Sculpture.

He is an author of drawings, objects, installations, performances and street activities. He has taken part in numerous exhibitions, symposia and artistic creations in the country, including: the Manhattan Gallery in Łódź, Galerie J&J Donguy, Paris, Ujazdowski Castle, Centre for Contemporary Art, Warsaw, Interdruck Schipper Patitz, Leipzig, BWA Wrocław Galleries of Contemporary Art, Otwarta Pracownia Gallery, Kraków, Labirynt 2 Gallery, Lublin, the Wschodnia Gallery, Łódź, Centre of Artistic Activities, Piotrków Trybunalski as well as abroad, among others, in Germany, the Netherlands, Scotland, Austria, Russia, Taiwan, Belarus, Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Spain, Japan, Indonesia and the USA.
