This year’s edition of the Museum Academy was addressed to both primary and secondary school teachers. The meeting was devoted to Joseph Conrad, the author of many famous literary works, among which there are school readings e.g.: “Lord Jim” or “Heart of Darkness”.

The lecture was led by Krzysztof Renik, who since 1977 has been to India and Southeast Asian countries, and since 1992 he has been a journalist and correspondent of Polish Radio. His journalistic achievements include several hundred articles and reportages in Polish and foreign periodicals.

The lecture given by Krzysztof Renik as part of the Museum Academy was an extraordinary journey in the footsteps of Joseph Conrad. Event participants had the opportunity to learn interesting and little-known facts from the writer’s life. The presentation was supplemented with numerous photographs by Elżbieta Dziuk, which are souvenirs of the joint journeys undertaken with Krzysztof Renik. A calm radio voice, carefully selected music from Asian travels and beautiful photos from distant parts of the world gave the impression of a dreamlike journey in time and space. Learning new facts about the life and work of Joseph Conrad in this form was a wonderful experience.

This is how one of the participants, befriended with the pair of travelers, summed up the meeting:

“I believe that such meetings are very necessary for us, the teachers. I am a Polish teacher, the combination of the image with the beautiful story about Joseph Conrad, with historical content is very valuable to me personally. Although Joseph Conrad is not currently on the compulsory reading list, but every teacher has the right to assign and discuss his works as supplementary readings. Mr. Renik’s amazing narration accompanied by beautiful photos by Ms. Dziuk took me to the world of dreams. This music and this voice perfectly set the mood… For me, the meeting was not so much a lesson or an educational session, but a relaxing experience that showed how knowledge, which simply enriches a man, can be conveyed.”

After the meeting, the participants listened to information about the educational offer for the 2024/2025 school year and received gifts prepared by the Sybir Memorial Museum.

Thank you all for participating in the meeting and we invite you to the next one!
