The season of methodological training for teachers at the Sybir Memorial Museum kicks off on September 19, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. with a special meeting featuring Krzysztof Renik. Our guest is a Polish philologist and cultural anthropologist who has specialized in Asian studies since the late 1970s. Renik has undertaken numerous journeys across South, Southeast, and Central Asia, as well as through the waters of the Malay Archipelago. Since 1991, he has visited Kazakhstan and neighboring countries multiple times, gaining unique insights into these regions. From 2007 to 2011, he served as the first and only South Asia correspondent for Polish Radio.
The upcoming event, entitled “Conrad Landscapes with Siberia in the Background” will focus on the figure of Joseph Conrad, author of works such as Heart of Darkness and Lord Jim. Our guest will present Conrad not only as an outstanding writer but also as a man with Siberian roots — Conrad was born into a family of Siberian exiles. Renik will explain the writer’s youth and the places he visited while working as a sailor, creating a fascinating link between literature and the experiences of a traveler.

The meeting will be combined with a presentation of the educational offer of the Sybir Memorial Museum and a visit to part of the permanent exhibition.
Join us on Thursday, September 19th at 3:00 p.m. at the Sybir Memorial Museum!
