This year, he will turn 100. Though he is a Sybirak and a veteran of General Anders\u2019 2nd Polish Corps, he does not consider himself a hero. He says that the true heroes are his comrades who remained at Monte Cassino. We invite you to the presentation of Colonel Romuald Lipi\u0144ski\u2019s memoirs<\/strong>, which will take place on March 28, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.<\/strong> at the Sybir Memorial Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from the sight of blood and the bodies of fallen comrades, Romuald Lipi\u0144ski also remembered this scene: “To the left, I could see a powerful mountain, covered with smoke, and the ruins of a once-beautiful monastery. There was one thing that impressed me: between our orchard and the hills the valley was covered with beautiful red poppies. The beauty of these flowers was in striking contrast with the grim brutality of the war. Later on, when we were already in battle, when I wanted to divert myself from the reality of our situation, I often looked at these beautiful flowers andI always could find relief in thinking that somewhere life was going on, serene, happy, where people go about their daily chores \u2013 life so different from ours. These poppies were in a striking contrat with our immediate surroundings: death, death, and once more death (\u2026).”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romuald Lipi\u0144ski\u2019s memoirs published by the Sybir Memorial Museum are a record of what he wanted to pass on to his children, born in America. He addressed them with poignant words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Why bother with a few million Poles who were eradicated from their homes, deported to some God-forsaken land, and left there to die? People are too focused on mowing their lawns, the morning traffic, or complaining that the TV program is too boring. Why go back to those unpleasant days and think about people from a country as distant as Poland? But that is why I write about it. I want to testify what happened and how it happened.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The premiere presentation of the memoirs will take place on the first floor, in the museum shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Free admittance \u2013 complimentary tickets are available at the ticket office from March 14, 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
