On Thursday, October 19, at 3:00 p.m., we invite you to the multimedia room of the Sybir Memorial Museum to the meeting promoting the book \u201cPolskie dzieci w Kraju Kwitn\u0105cej WI\u015bni\u201d (‘Polish children in the Land of the Rising Sun’) by Sylwia Szarejko, PhD. The special guest will be the Japanese Ambassador to Poland, Akio Miyajima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Sylwia Szarejko, PhD, says about the work on the Polish-Japanese publication:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2014 Enormous support I experienced while writing this book, both from the Japanese and Polish side, confirmed what one of the characters in this book had written in his memoirs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Kindness, cordiality, warm and endearing attitude’ \u2014 these are the emotions that ‘Polish Children of Siberia’ remembered from their stay in Japan. I have got the same feeling after finishing my work on this publication \u2014 says the author of the book published by the Sybir Memorial Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Published in the ‘Little Sybir Stories’ series, the publication presents the touching story of how in 1920 the Japanese government and the Japanese Red Cross helped thousands of Polish children \u2014 descendants of settlers and exiles \u2014 to escape from civil war-torn Russia. Through Japan, the ‘Siberian Children’ reached independent Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Szarejko, PhD’s book you can learn how this great operation took place, who was involved in it (on the Polish and Japanese side) and what the further fate of the children was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rich graphic design of the publication was developed by Dorota Klimowicz-Bo\u0142tromiuk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
