Idea to establish the Sybir Memorial Museum
The Sybir Memorial Museum being established in Białystok is not only a Polish but also a European institution initiating and conducting scientific research as well as educational activities regarding the Siberian theme in its broad sense. The idea to establish the Museum is to show Siberia in every dimension, beginning from the 17th century, throughout the 19th century post-uprising deportations and until the 20th century development of the Soviet system. The purpose of the exhibition is to show the history of particular people and their experience through carefully selected exhibits.
The Museum’s task is not only to keep but also pass on to future generations the memory of Siberia experience as a symbol of tsar and Stalinist repressions, to bring the history of the community on former eastern lands of the Second Republic of Poland closer.
