About the Sybir Memorial Museum in Bielsk Podlaski and Hajnówka

As part of the commemoration of the second mass deportation’s anniversary (April 13, 1940), we visited Bielsk Podlaski and Hajnówka - towns with a large and active Siberian community. The pretext for the meetings that attracted a large group of interested people was the promotion of one of our latest publications: "Siberia with a pencil by Alina Maliszewska" (link to the store with the publication).

Director of the Sybir Memorial Museum - prof. Wojciech Śleszyński talked about our activity and about the construction of the Museum’s seat at Węglowa Street in Białystok, and the head of the Research Department, dr Marcin Zwolski, spoke about Soviet deportations and the extraordinary qualities of the presented book. The discussion after their speeches was long, and the statements of the participants, especially the Siberians, were extremely warm and touching. We returned to Białystok late at night tired, but charged with positive energy provided by friendly residents of Bielsk and Hajnówka. We would like to thank the Museum in Bielsk Podlaski and the dr Tadeusz Rakowiecki’s Municipal Public Library in Hajnówka for help in organizing meetings and warm welcome.
